Factfile: Dixons Kings Academy

Dixons Kings Academy, formerly known as Kings Science Academy opened as a free school in September 2011.

At the time, The Independent said the school "comes closest to David Cameron's vision of what a free school should be."

The Prime Minister praised and visited the school in 2012.

  • It is a smaller than average secondary school with 708 pupils on roll.

  • Students are aged 11-16 - with only Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 on roll.

  • In December 2014 - an Ofsted report said the school 'required improvement'. A further report in April 2015 found the school was 'taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement'.

  • In January 2015, the academy became part of the Dixons Academies Trust - and changed its name from Kings Science Academy to Dixons Kings Academy.

  • At the same time, the new principal - Neil Miley, took up his post.

Kings Science Academy's former principal Sajid Raza, 42; former head of department Shabana Hussain, 38, and former director of finance Daud Khan, 43, are facing fraud charges relating to their involvement at the school. They deny and charges and will go on trial in July 2016.
