1st Armoured Division to get new home in York
One of the army's top divisions is to change its name and relocate to York.
The 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division will drop 'armoured' from its title and become the 1st (UK) Division and around 1000 soldiers are gathering in Germany for a celebration of the division's achievements.
As well as an equipment and parachute display the troops will parade through barracks at Herford.
The change is one in a series which will see the Division move from Germany to transform into an adaptable force.
The adaptable force is the vision of Commander Land Forces, Lieutenant General Sir Nick Carter, which "allows force elements to be employed anywhere with confidence" with "the ability to bring soft and hard power together".
