When Le Tour came to Yorkshire

In December 2012 it was announced that the 2014 Grand Départ of Le Tour de France would take place in Yorkshire.

Gary Verity, the man responsible for bringing the race to the county, had been convinced that his Welcome to Yorkshire bid would not be accepted before 2016.

Instead the bid was victorious and when the final route through Yorkshire was revealed in October 2013, the county had just 9 months to wait for one of the world's biggest sporting events.

This is Yorkshire's Grand Départ
