Exclusive Interview: Jack Charlton
Leeds United legend and World Cup winner Jack Charlton says this year's crop of players aren't as good as those in 1966.
Charlton holds the record for the most appearances at United and played for the club during its most successful years under Don Revie.
The competition begins on Thursday with England kicking off their campaign against Italy on Saturday, but Charlton says he is not optimistic:
It was at Leeds under Don Revie where Charlton made his name, winning promotion from Division 2 and then the Division 1 title in 1969 and 1974.
In a dressing room with Revie and captain Billy Bremner it was John Charles who gave Charlton his most memorable telling off:
Jack went on to manage Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesborough and Newcastle but he made the biggest impact as manager of the Republic of Ireland.
He led the boys in Green to World Cups in 1990 and 1994 and claimed a memorable victory over England in the 1988 European Championships in Germany.
His name is still sung at Ireland games and he remains a popular figure across the country:
