Knifeman jailed after Scunthorpe police pursuit

A knifeman who was involved in a police pursuit through Scunthorpe where he rammed a police vehicle has been jailed for 28 months.

In January 2014, 21 year-old Sam Powell was reported to police for going to a woman's house and threatening her with a knife.

Police then found Powell's Mitsubishi Shogun and along with a police helicopter, pursued it through Scunthorpe, onto the M180 and onto the M18.

Powell's car was finally brought to a stop around Junction 3 on the M18 by using a police stinger to burst his tyres.

He was then charged with:

  • Dangerous driving

  • Driving whilst disqualified

  • Driving with no insurance

  • Failure to stop

  • Aggravated vehicle taking

  • Assault

  • Possession of a bladed article

  • Communication conveying a threatening message

Mr Powell appeared at Grimsby Crown court on Friday 21 March and was handed a 28 month prison sentence.
