Man held over police shooting
A 37-year-old man who was wanted over the shooting of a police officer in Leeds has been arrested.
West Yorkshire Police launched a manhunt for James Leslie, 37, after the female officer was shot and injured while attending a routine call to a disturbance in Cardigan Road in the Hyde Park district.
The force said two uniformed officers attended a "routine call" about a disturbance and were confronted by a man at the address who fired at them.
Kieran Williams, 17, described how he had an altercation with Leslie and a women police officer called round to take information from his housemates during the night after a bottle was thrown through their window.
He said he later heard multiple shots.
The teenager said Leslie came to his house, which backs on to the scene of the shooting, complaining that someone was shining a torch through his window.
Kieran said he went to bed but was woken by a loud bang at between 2.30am and 3am when Leslie threw a bottle through his window.
He said that at about 3.30am he heard "one clean shot and then, like he was holding the gun in the air, like he was firing shots everywhere".
He said the police had come round earlier to talk to the people in the house about the broken window.
Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Dodd said the arrest was made following a call from a member of the public who had spotted a man fitting Leslie's description.
Speaking at the scene, Chief Superintendent Paul Money said the female officer suffered "serious" injuries to her face, neck and right hand.
