The new manager at Sheffield United is probably most famous for his father's achievements. Bryan Clough steered Nottingham Forest to two consecutive European Cups and is revered as one of the greatest manager's ever in the English League.

Nigel Clough has carved out a strong career of his own, despite the looming shadow of his father's legacy. He registered over 400 appearances for Nottingham Forest, before moving to Liverpool, Manchester City and his new club's rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

His managerial career began in 1998 with Burton Albion, staying with the club until 2009. In his final season with Burton his team took 11 consecutive wins, finishing 13 points clear at the top of the football Conference.

He then followed in Bryan's footsteps, taking over Derby County in 2009, replacing Paul Jewell. At the start of the 2011-12 season he took Derby to their best league start in 106 years with four wins from four, earning a nomination for manager of the month, losing out to current Sunderland manager, Gus Poyet's Brighton & Hove Albion.

Clough was sacked as Derby County Manager on 28 September 2013 following the 1–0 defeat to rivals Nottingham Forest, leaving Derby 14th in the Football League Championship.

He signed a two and a half year deal with Sheffield United and inherits a team currently 21st in the league, and with only two wins in 13 games.
