Boxing stars turned out for the reopening of a Sheffield gym that local companies have helped to recover from a raid by vandals.

World title contender Kell Brook was joined by a host of local professional

boxers to celebrate the re-opening of Lower Manor Boxing Gym.

Vandals broke into the gym on Prince of Wales Road, pulling down the ceiling and smashing up toilets and showers, to strip the building of its copper piping.

The metal thieves also stole the gym’s boiler and essential training equipment, including a portable boxing ring and punch bags.

The gym has undergone a recent refurbishment of some of its facilities, thanks to a £25,000 donation from local firm Galatia. Volunteers from the repairs and maintenance company also donated their time and efforts to completely transform the gym’s changing rooms and shower facilities.

Galatia managed the refurbishment project, which saw several local

businesses and organisations group together to get Lower Manor Boxing Gym up and running again.

Additional support was provided by Jackson Shipley, Travis Perkins, Manor

Development Trust, Video Domain Technologies, Photuris Ltd and Temples Security Ltd. The project has also had the full support of Cllr Terry Fox and Cllr Pat Midgley.
