MPs call for limitation period on car crash claims

A group of MPs are calling on the government to consider reducing the limitation period for road accident insurance claims, and require those who have suffered whiplash to produce more evidence.

Today's news comes following a report last year which put Bradford in a national league table of shame for the number of drivers who take to the road without insurance. Police say the rogue drivers are increasing premiums for law-abiding motorists.

Genuine claimants should not be demonised, according to the group.

In a statement, the Committee explain how they were surprised to hear that insurers will sometimes make an offer to personal injury claimants even before a medical report has been received.

The Committee says it also supports a proposal for an accreditation scheme for doctors who provide medical reports in relation to whiplash claims.
