A South Yorkshire police officer and his four-year-old German Shepherd are celebrating their success in the National Police Dog Trials in Wales.

PC Harrison and Vee the dog, won the Simpson Trophy for the best tracking dog following testing times at Margam Castle.

Also competing in the three-day event, hosted by South Wales Police, was Ecclesfield-based PC John Shaw with five-year-old German Shepherd Diesel.

Handlers and dogs from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were put through their paces at the event, testing abilities such as tracking over a long distance, searching premises for suspects, chase and detain, dealing with armed criminals, obedience and crowd control.
