It's the 80th birthday of cricket's most famous umpire Dickie Bird - aka Harold Dennis Bird.

Barnsley-born Dickie turns 80 today but he was at the University of Huddersfield yesterday for a lunch in his honour.

“On birthdays you usually want to forget your age but 80 is very special,” said Dickie.

Calendar went to his South Yorkshire home to wish him happy birthday - with a cake, of course.

In his 80 years Dickie has collected a lot of memorabilia. A replica statue as well as his MBE and OBE stand proudly in his living room. "I've been told, if anything happens to me, I should leave this house as it is, as a museum."

Asked if has any regrets, he said: "I've none, I've had a wonderful 50 odd years in cricket, and to say I worked at the pit top, right up to me signing for for Yorkshire at 19, I've had a wonderful life.

He added: "I'd like to thank Calendar for all their support over the years."
