D-day for chicken factory campaigners in Lincolnshire

Bleasby Moor Against Development protest against the factory

Councillors will decide tonight whether to approve a chicken farm which will house thousands of birds for slaughter in Lincolnshire.

Jagger Poultry Ltd has proposed keeping more than 300,000 birds on the site at Hill Top Farm on Bleasby Moor.

Local residents have set up an action group - Bleasby Moor Against Development (BMAD). They say the site, planned for just 150 metres from the nearest house, could have an adverse impact on their health, caused by dust and noise, the smell and water pollution.

But the firm said new buildings and equipment would mean the impact of the farm was reduced.

Jagger Poultry and Amber Real Estate Investments want to convert an egg laying unit at Hill Top Farm into buildings for chickens to be bred specifically for meat production.

But BMAD is arguing an intensive livestock unit should be at least 400 metres away from housing, according to West Lindsey District Council's local plan.
