Campaigner commissions own flood report
A campaigner who commissioned an independent report into the Calder Valley floods says it shows bushes, silt and overhanging trees need clearing from the river.
Barry Greenwood says not enough has been done to prevent Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd flooding again. He asked a chartered engineer to conduct a survey, which can be found here.He says the report shows overhanging trees, bushes and silt needs clearing from the river Calder. In July the Calder Valley was left in shock after being flooded for the second time in three weeks. A flash flood happened after a month’s worth of rain (44mm) fell on a very concentrated area, including the Keighley Road hillside, in just three hours.
Mr Greenwood will meet with the Environment Agency today.
