A parade and thanksgiving service for soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment will take place in York today.

HRH Prince Andrew, their Colonel-in-Chief, will attend the service at the Minster, to welcome home the regiment, who have just returned home form a six-month tour of Afghanistan.

The 500 soldiers will march from Tower Street to Duncombe Place at 12.40pm for a salute in front of guests, families and onlookers before moving to York Minster for the service.

The soldiers have returned from Operation HERRICK 16, providing support to 12 Mechanized Brigade in Helmand Province.

Ten of their soldiers were killed in operations and their families have been invited to the parade and service.

Music will be provided by the Band of the King's Division during the parade, and the Warminster Military Wives Choir at the service.
