Chatsworth has been rated Britain’s favourite stately home in a report published by the consumers organisation, Which?

More than 4,000 people took part in the survey which included the best-loved and most visually stunning structures across the country- including castles, palaces, cathedrals and government buildings.

Chatsworth was voted the best stately home, and came fourth overall behind Stirling Castle in first place, and the Houses of Parliament and Gloucester Cathedral in joint second place.

The Which? report comes on opening of the Chatsworth Country Fair, the biggest event of its kind in England, which is taking place from today (Friday 31st) to Sunday 2nd September.

The Duke of Devonshire said: “So much effort and hard work goes into making Chatsworth as wonderful as it is and we really appreciate the recognition from our visitors. I know it will give us all a great boost as we get ready for our Christmas season.”
