Ten thousand greet Jess Ennis in Sheffield

Around ten thousand people turned out for** **Jess Ennis' welcome home party in Sheffield today.

There was a spectacular reception awaiting her, with a makeshift track, made specially in her honour, being opened at 4pm at Balm Green, next to the City Hall. Olympians of the future were able to try out their skills in the hope of emulating Jess' heptathlon achievements.

Sheffield band The Hot Soles and singer Sarah Mac will took to the Barker’s Pool stage. Jess' journey to Olympic success was shown on big screens alongside the stage and on Fargate near the Town Hall.

A ceremony began on stage at 6.30pm, and a song written for Jess was performed shortly after.

Those attending were asked to wear something golden in honour of Jess's achievement.

Barker's Pool was also transformed, with trees and lampposts wrapped in golden colours.
