Tykes' Olympic dozen
Yorkshire is celebrating after its athletes won a total of 12 Olympic medals - more than many countries.
The Tykes will bring seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals home with them from London 2012.
And tourism chiefs are hoping that the tally, which would see Yorkshire placed 12th in the medal table if it was an independent country, will bring more visitors to the county.
The story of where Yorkshire was placed in the table snowballed last week after appearing on Twitter.
Tourism agency Welcome To Yorkshire even published a map to guide people round the county via the home towns of its athletes.
On the final saturday of the Games, Hull boxer Luke Campbell added a seventh gold medal to Yorkshire's tally.
The Yorkshireman referenced his home city in a Tweet last week after securing a place in the semi-finals.
Campbell's medal added to the haul of golds from Leeds boxer Nicola Adams, Sheffield heptathlete Jessica Ennis, Leeds triathlete Alistair Brownlee, Huddersfield cyclist Ed Clancy, Yorkshire Dales rower Andy Triggs-Hodge and North Yorkshire rower Kat Copeland.
Silver medals came from Otley cyclist Lizzie Armitstead, who won the first British medal of the Olympics, and Nicola Wilson, from Morton-on-Swale, near Northallerton, who helped the Team GB eventing team to second place.
Cyclist Clancy also won a bronze medal, along with York rower Tom Ransley and Leeds triathlete Jonathan Brownlee.
The final tally places Yorkshire just behind international sporting powerhouse Australia and Japan, which also finished London 2012 with seven golds but won more medals in total.
The county, which has a population of six million, finished higher up the table than countries such as Jamaica, Spain, Brazil and South Africa.
Gary Verity, chair of Yorkshire Gold and chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "The success of Team Yorkshire at the London 2012 Games has been phenomenal.
"Yorkshire is a great sporting county. Our athletes, with their hard work and determination, combined with outstanding facilities and the perfect landscape for a life outdoors, has produced this amazing amount of medals.
