North Yorkshire show jumper wins silver
Nicola Wilson from North Yorkshire has won a silver medal in the show jumping final of the three-discipline Olympic equestrian eventing competition.
She and her four team mates, including the Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips, narrowly missed out on the gold, which went to Germany. New Zealand took the bronze.
Nicola was called into the team last month after another rider's horse was injured. She and her horse, Opposition Buzz, replaced Piggy French after she and her horse DHI Topper W had to pull out.
They gave Team GB's eventing team a flying start to the Olympic cross-country test on Monday. The pair are regarded as one of the world's leading cross-country teams, and they lived up to the expectation in front of an estimated 50,000 crowd at Greenwich Park.
And the crowds were out in force again today for today's showjumping, seeing Nicola suffer just one penalty and finish within the allotted time.
The medal takes Team GB's total to four, three of which have come from the Calendar region. Lizzie Armitstead from Otley won the first in the cycling road race on Saturday, followed by Mansfield's Rebecca Adlington who won for the 400m freestyle on Sunday.
