Witness appeal following fatal crash in Barnsley
Police say the collision happened around 10.25pm yesterday (Friday, 27 July) on Industry road, 50 metres prior to the junction with St Annes Drive, Carlton Industrial estate, Barnsley.
It is reported that a blue Piaggio NRG motor scooter was travelling from Carlton Road, along Industry road toward Fish Dam Lane. It is believed a blue Peugeot 306 driven by the 22-year-old man from Lundwood, Barnsley, was travelling in the same direction and overtook the scooter on the offside, but lost control as it approached a left hand bend, colliding with a lamp post.The Peugeot driver, a 22-year-old Barnsley man, sustained fatal injuries in the collision.
Four passengers in the Peugeot all from Barnsley also received injuries. One, a 17-year-old girl received life threatening injuries and a 16-year-old boy received serious injuries, a broken femur and pelvis. Both are currently being treated at the Northern General Hospital. A 19-year-old man received minor back injuries and is currently being treated at Barnsley District Hospital and a 25-year-old woman received minor whiplash.
