Stepping back to wartime
An event is being held in West Yorkshire to show what it was like to live and serve in the wars and conflicts of the 20th century.
Over 1000 people will take part in the battle re-enactment for the Yorkshire Wartime Experience held in aid of the Royal British Legion and the SSAFA. Genuine UK, US and German tanks and artillery will be featured. There will also be displays and visitors can meet the "British Tommies" of the First World War, "GI Joes" from the Normandy Beaches as well as the Women's Land Army.
The special guest is Bill Duncanson, who is returning from Australia where he now lives. When he was 5-years-old in 1943 he saw a Halifax Bomber crash at the site in Bradford where the event is being held.
A trench has been dug to replicate one from the First World War and there will also be:
Military Camp and Vehicle displays
Typical wartime diet - cookery demonstration
Guided tours of living history displays
Aircraft cockpits including a Harrier, Camberra Bomber, Jet Provost and Wessex Scout (shot down in the Falklands War)
British Legion Skipton Band
Beverley Alexander, 1940s singer
