Jubilee memories: Queen in Calendar region
The Queen celebrated her first 25 years on the throne in the 1970s. She wanted to see, and be seen, by as many of her subjects as possible, as she celebrated her Silver Jubilee.
She visited towns around the Calendar region over a two day period.
Thousands of people lined streets and filled race courses, hoping to catch a glimpse of the glamorous young monarch.
David Nicholson from Cannon Hall farm near Barnsley remembers the day that the attraction become a sea of red, white and blue. David was just seven at the time and he was allowed a ride in the Queen's bullet proof car.
In 2002 the Queen paid a visit to Emmerdale visit, on the day an explosion was being filmed. Ian Rowley, set designer, said the special effects had been planned weeks in advance. The Queen didn't bat an eyelid!
