Driver arrested for drug-driving after hitting elderly man

A van driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after an elderly man was knocked over in Egremont.

It happened on Egremont's Main Street outside the Co-Op store at 7am on Saturday 24 March.

The 78-year-old man suffered serious injuries and remains in a stable condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The van driver, a 27-year-old man from St Helens, Merseyside, has been released under further investigation.
