Major search operation continues for missing Dumfries man in River Nith

A major search and rescue operation continues, after a 43-year-old man fell into the River Nith last night.

Brian Cowie fell into the river near to the rowing club at Greensands at around 9.00pm last night.

Body found in river was missing Dumfries man

Police Scotland has confirmed that a body pulled from the River Nith on Saturday is that of Bryan Cowie - a man from Dumfries who had been missing since last Sunday.

Mr Cowie, aged 41, fell into the river near to the rowing club at Greensands, at around 9.00pm on Sunday, February 5th.

Police were called at around 9:30am Saturday (11 February) to reports that a body had been spotted near Kingholm Quay.

The police worked together with Nith Inshore Rescue Team to recover the man's body, and take it to the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

In a short statement on Sunday morning Police Scotland said:

"There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Mr Cowie's relatives are aware."
