Four tourists from Essex have been rescued by coastguard teams at Portpatrick, on the south west coast of Scotland.

Rescue teams from Portpatrick, Stranraer, Drummore and Ballantrae were sent out, after receiving a 999 call from a lady who had a severe leg injury.

Despite Gale Force Eight winds, gusting up to 70 miles an hour, she and her three companions were found in inaccessible and rough terrain near Dunskey Castle.

The coastguard worked with a Scottish Ambulance Service team to stabilise the woman, and she was then airlifted to hospital.

The three walkers with her were found to be suffering from hypothermia, and were also taken to hospital.

The group of walkers are visitors to the area from Essex.
