Storm Desmond devastates the region

People in areas affected by the floods are being asked to remain vigilant as more rain is forecast.

A band of rain spreading into tomorrow will bring the potential for further disruption across Cumbria, as well as parts of Lancashire and North Yorkshire, the Environment Agency has said.

However rivers are not expected to return to levels reached last weekend.

Rescue workers save python snake from flooded home

Cumbria Fire & rescue have had to evacuate a python from Carlisle's Warwick Road area.

As well as rescuing stranded residents, emergency service workers have also had to evacuate dogs, cats, a chinchilla and a large python.

As part of ongoing rescue operations, emergency services have deployed hundreds of boats throughout Cumbria.

So far they have deployed:

  • 300 boats yesterday
  • 60 last night
  • 40 this morning, although that number is rising
