Recovery operation starts in Dumfries and Galloway

This is the latest update from the emergency services:

"The response has now moved from the response phase to the recovery phase.

River levels at the Whitesands will remain high for the rest of the day. The Whitesands will remain closed for the rest of the day.

During the severe weather yesterday, Langholm was an area that was badly hit.

Today, things are returning to normal in the town.

The rest centre that was opened yesterday evening has now been stood down.

Officers from Police Scotland, Fire and Rescue Service and the Council are still in the town and providing advice and support.

Individuals from the properties that were evacuated yesterday are now returning to their homes.

Police officers are visiting all of the affected properties to provide assurance to residents.

Roads in the region remain dangerous with standing water still present. Members of the public should avoid driving unless necessary and take extreme care.":
