Boost for Carlisle announced in Chancellor's spending review

Chancellor George Osborne's Spending Review took many people in the region by surprise.

Carlisle has been named an Enterprise Zone, which could bring thousands of jobs to the area.

Proposed cuts to tax credits have also been scrapped, and the Chancellor says there will be NO further cuts to the police budget.

Chancellor announces Carlisle will become Enterprise Zone

Chancellor George Osborne has announced £12 billion of funding for 26 new or extended Enterprise Zones, including Carlisle, Dorset and Ipswich.

The news means there should be additional funding and government support for enterprise schemes in the city.

It is understood the zone will be at Kingmoor Park in the north of Carlisle, and could create thousands of jobs.

The Zone will offer a reduction in business rates or tax relief for companies.
