A 48-year-old woman has died after a crash on a slip road off the A74, near Gretna.

Police say at around 7pm, on Sunday 2 August, the driver, who has not been named, appeared to lose control of her Volkswagen Touran.

The car went down the embankment at the slip road of the A74 at Junction 22, Gretna.

The woman died at the scene, and four other people in the car were injured:

  • 12-year-old boy was seriously injured and is being treated at hospital in Newcastle

  • 43-year-old woman was injured
  • 21-year-old woman was injured

The police say the woman's family have still not all been made aware of her death.

The slip road was closed while investigations took place, but has now re-opened.

I am appealing to any motorists who may have seen the silver-coloured Volkswagen Touran on the A74 prior to it exiting on to the slip road and perhaps noticed anything or who may have seen directly what happened. Please contact 101 with any information."
