Carlisle United's Managing Director John Nixon says he will stand down once the Club's new ownership has been confirmed, claiming the Blues need "fresh blood".

The move was reportedly agreed during negotiations with potential new owner Andrew Lapping.

But, according to a statement posted on the Club's website, his resignation will take place if the CUFC strikes a deal with the other investment group being considered alongside Mr Lapping.

We need fresh blood and fresh ideas and I am fully committed to stepping aside. It is something I talked about a year go. Whoever comes into the club will need to appoint their own new MD - their own person - and that is only right.

"I have enjoyed every minute of my time at the Club. There have been some great times. The last three years have been difficult but I am a Carlisle United supporter at heart and I have done what I could for my club and by carrying out what the board wanted to do."

– John Nixon, Managing Director of Carlisle United Football Club

Mr Nixon has stated that he hopes to remain a shareholder and director of CUFC Holdings, which owns more than 90% of the Club.
