A cheque for £63,000 was handed to Wasdale Mountain Rescue team at their AGM last night.

It was presented by Adam Nolan. His dog, Jasper, went missing in the Scafell area for four days earlier this month.

#findjasper took off on social media, and was shared hundreds of thousands of times.

It sparked a huge search effort, and eventually Jasper was found by Geoff Horky in the early hours of Thursday, November 6.

He called Wasdale Mountain Rescue team for assistance, and they were able to return the Border Collie to his owner.

Now, followers of the social media campaign have raised tens of thousands of pounds for the mountain rescue team, which is run by volunteers.

The team are saving up for a new base, which is estimated to cost around £500,000.

"This is a truly fantastic sum of money that we never expected or dreamed of and we will ensure that the funds are wisely spent, contributing towards a new base that will ensure a more efficient volunteer rescue service to meet the increasing demands in search and rescue across the Lake District."

– John Bamforth, Team Chairman
