Confidential settlement reached in 'Penrith pong' case

A long-running legal battle over the so-called "Penrith pong" has finally been settled in court.

Alba Proteins Limited, who run an animal rendering plant, at Wildriggs on the outskirts of Penrith, agreed a settlement with lawyers who represented 88 families from the area.

The agreement was kept very secretive but some of the points were made available.

For instance, the agreement will see a so-called independent odour consultant appointed who'll make unannounced visits over the next three years. But much of the settlement remains confidential.

What we do know is the 88 families are happy with the decision. The lawyer representing them read this joint statement outside court.
