New world record for Wainwright's peaks race

A man from Cumbria has beaten a world record only ever completed by one other man - previous record holder Joss Naylor. Steve Birkinshaw ran Wainwright's 214 peaks last week, setting a new world record in the process.

A fell runner from Keswick has vowed to become the first person to challenge the record for running all 214 Wainwright peaks.

The Lake District challenge has only been completed by famous local runner Joss Naylor.

Steve Birkinshaw is half way through the feat, which involves running 512km over 36,000 feet of ascent.
