Famous UK scientist, Brian Cox, will officially open the Sellafield Story Exhibition and the Beacon Museum at Whitehaven today (30th May).

The exhibition will allow visitors to learn about the history of the nuclear industry in West Cumbria.

Professor Brian Cox has told guests at the opening of the Beacon Museum that nuclear power would be an important source of energy in the UK.

The scientist, most famous for his TV series on science, said the exhibition at the Beacon museum was a 'wonderful' way of explaining the science and nuclear processes.

He also gave a lecture to over 100 schoolchildren and students of St Benedict's Whitehaven, Whitehaven Academy, Millom school and Lakes College.

The Sellafield Story exhibition and Beacon Museum have been officially opened by Professor Brian Cox in Whitehaven.

Sellafield Ltd have entered a partnership with the local council to fund the running of the Beacon museum for the next five years.
