Almost half a million pounds worth of livestock has been stolen in Cumbria in the last three years, according to Cumbria police.
The force has launched Operation Ambient to raise awareness.
They have been patrolling at Kendal auction Mart to look for stolen animals and to talk to farmers about the problem.
Many of them, like Andrew Allen, who farms near Windermere, have had livestock stolen.
