Future of MOD Longtown
Defence Minister Philip Dunne has been meeting councillors at the Longtown MOD site to discuss the future of the site. It was previously announced that the site would remain open, but that a number of jobs would be lost.
Cumbria Council seeking investors for Longtown base
Cumbria County Council is looking into ways to bring potential investors into Longtown.
They are considering developing land that remains unused from the downsizing of the MOD
depot.
The Longtown base had been threatened with closure as part of the Government's cost cutting measures.
The base was recently given a reprieve, but 50 jobs out of a workforce of 300 were lost.
