Flood warnings are in place across the region. Although there has been no serious flooding so far warnings remain in place around Carlisle and in the Borders. A further flood warning is likely to be issued for the Appleby area.

The small village of Smardale near Kirkby Stephen was cut off by four feet of flood water.
