Cumbria County Council had already secured £134 million for the project, but rising costs caused by inflation mean the road will now cost more.

Extra £78 million secured for Carlisle Southern Link Road

Carlisle is one of 25 areas in England that have been awarded a share of £3 million to help them set their own standards for design locally.

Two schemes - St Cuthbert's Garden Village and Carlisle Southern Link Road - are both part of the event at Carlisle Racecourse.

An extra £32m has been secured to build a link road to the south of Carlisle, meaning there are hopes the project will be completed by 2024.

Carlisle City Council is holding a consultation drop-in at the racecourse for people to have their say on St Cuthbert's Garden Village.
