Police granted more time to interview Windermere murder suspects

Cumbria Police have been granted a further 36 hours to interview two men, who were arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Windermere.

The body of Gordon James Smith was found in the Lake Road area, on 1 July.

A 48-year-old woman remains in custody and is still being questioned in connection with the case, but no further extension has been applied to her.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

15-year-old girl bailed in Windermere murder investigation

A 15-year-old girl who was arrested as part of a murder investigation in Windermere, has been released on bail.

South Lakes Magistrates have now granted Cumbria Police a further 36 hours to question three other suspects.

They are:

  • Two men, aged 26 and 31, who are local to the area
  • One woman, aged 48, who was visiting Windermere

The investigation was launched after the body of 44-year-old Gordon James Smith was found in the Lake Road area of the town, on July 1.

The 15-year-old girl has been bailed until next Friday (10 July).

Tributes to a man found dead in Windermere have been left at the scene of a police murder investigation.

Gordon James Smith, 44, was found in Brookside, Lake Road, on July 1.

The area has re-opened to the public, but police are continuing to investigate.

Cumbria Police have named a man found dead in Windermere, on 1 July.

Gordon James Smith, 44, of Church Street, was found in Brookside, Lake Road, in the early hours of the morning, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have now launched a murder investigation, and have arrested four people:

  • Two local men aged 26 and 31
  • Two women aged 48 and 15, who were visiting Windermere

They are all still being questioned by police.
