Police investigate Cockermouth death

A man has been charged in connection with the death in Cockermouth on Sunday.

Michael Sanderson, of Arkleby Hall Cottages, Arkleby, Wigton, has been charged with murder.

The thirty-year-old appeared at West Allerdale Magistrates Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody until June 4, when he will appear at Carlisle Crown Court.

The family of a man found dead in Cockermouth at the weekend have paid tribute to him.

Fifty-nine-year-old Terry Taylor, of Oldham in Greater Manchester, died yesterday.

Police have now identified the man who died in Cockermouth yesterday, and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Terry Taylor, 59,of the Oldham area in Greater Manchester, has been identified as the victim.

A 30-year-old man from Aspatria has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and is helping police with their enquiries.

Police were called to the Globe Hotel on Main Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Areas in Cockermouth are still inaccessible due to the ongoing murder investigation, with Challoner Street at the Junction of Main Street, closed.

But all businesses, except the Globe Hotel, are open.

Residents can leave the area from South Street (one way) onto Station Street.

There will be an emergency traffic order to change South Street to two-way, allowing access to South Street, Challoner Street, Croftside, and other side streets in the area.

Police are appealing for the public's help to identify a man who was murdered in Cockermouth.

Officers were called to the Globe Hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim is described as a white male, of stocky to heavy build, approximately 5ft 9 to 5ft 10 tall, clean shaven, with a shaven head.

He has a distinction black panther tattoo on his upper right arm, and an Alsatian’s dog head tattoo on his upper back, between the shoulder blades.

Police in West Cumbria have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found in Cockermouth.

Emergency services were called to the Globe Hotel on Main Street at 3am this morning (Sunday 31 May).

Detectives are asking for the public's help to identify the victim.

He is described as between 35 to 50-years-old with a shaved head. He has two tattoos: a black panther on his right upper arm and the head of an Alsatian dog on his back.

Detectives say the person who carried out the attack will have blood on their clothes.
