Renowned Longtown actor receives honorary award

He's collected an honorary fellowship from the University of Cumbria today, but did you know that Longtown's Simon Greenall is also the voice behind some very famous meerkats?

Longtown's Simon Greenall fondly remembers playing Geordie boy Michael in 'Alan Partridge' - and gives us some of Michael's best lines.

Simon Greenhall has told ITV Border that despite leaving his hometown of Longtown and the rest of Cumbria behind in 1982, he still has a "great connection" with Carlisle.

The actor, best known for his appearance in the 'Alan Partridge' series, has been back in the city to receive an honorary fellowship.

Simon has enjoyed a career as an actor, producer, writer and voice over artist.

He is best known to the public for his role as Michael in the TV show 'I'm Alan Partridge' and as the voice of the meerkat Alexandr Orlov in the popular television adverts.
