The owners of a Lakeland hotel gutted by fire are searching for the anonymous person who helped ensure it wasn't burned to the ground.

A farm worker used his quad bike to get firefighters hoses to a nearby beck.

The man has so far not been traced but the owners of the Queen's Head hotel at Troutbeck are keen to find him to pass on their thanks.

Lake District hotel fire 'not suspicious'

Parts of an historic hotel near Windermere have been 'totally destroyed' by a major fire.

The blaze started last night at the Queen's Head Hotel, Troutbeck.

Cumbria Fire Service has started investigating the cause of the fire but it is not thought to be suspicious at this stage.

Our early investigations are leading us towards some sort of electrical problem which started at the rear of the building but the investigator will find that out for us.

Inside it's totally destroyed by fire at the rear of the hotel but the bar area has water damage but no fire damage.

Road closure due to serious fire

Diversions are being put in place on the A66 for anything over 3.5 tonnes (HGV’s and coaches).

Motorists travelling from the southern end can use the A591 to Kendal and then the A6 or M6 North. Lighter vehicles are able to use The Struggle but are advised to use extreme care due to the possible high volume of traffic that may be using it.
