Badminton Champion

Cumbrian 21 year old Lauren Smith and her partner Gabby White are now national champions after a comfortable win in the women's doubles final at the English National Badminton Championship.

The pair beat Heather Olver and Mariana Agathangelou 21-9, 21-9.

Smith, from Longtown near Carlisle, won't get much of a chance to rest - she competes in the European Championships in 9 days time.

Lauren Smith, a rising star in the Badminton world, is in the final of the women's doubles at the National Badminton Championship in Manchester. The 21 year from Longtown is partnering Gabby White and the pair will face Heather Olver and Mariana Agathangelou in final later today.

Smith was named Cumbrian Sports Personality of the year last November, and is widely tipped to make the Commonwealth Games squad for Glasgow 2014.
