A rather cold start to another largely dry day for most with some long spells of sunshine, especially through the morning towards Stranraer and Dumfries.

Mainly light winds with occasional showers.

Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Some evening sunshine with long clear spells following.

A touch of frost is expected, especially in areas sheltered from the northeasterly breeze.

Perhaps a shower across the east, a dusting of snow high ground.

Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Apart from an isolated light shower in the east, it will be dry with some sunshine at times, the best in the west.

Still cold in the chilly northeasterly breeze.

Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Small risk of isolated light showers across the east perhaps.

Otherwise a dry night with clear spells developing especially in the west.

Widespread frost.

Minimum temperature -3 °C.

It comes as no great surprise but...

For the UK, this was the coldest March since 1962 and the 2nd coldest onrecord (shared with 1947).

It was also the coldest calendar month of the winter - beating December, January and February for low temperatures.
