WEATHER: Overnight into Monday
Rain spreading southeast overnight. Mainly light but persistent for a time.
Cold and very windy weather following to the northwest by dawn.
Monday is a day of sunshine and showers with very strong winds. Showers will become more developed and turn increasingly wintry as the day progresses.
There is a Met Office warning in place for the hills: squally snow showers creating difficult driving conditions. 5-10cm snow cover possible over higher routes with some drifting. Gusts to 50mph.
WEATHER: Sunday afternoon
A blustery afternoon with gusty, westerly winds..
The best of the brightness will remain in the east as a cold front approaching from the west by evening will bring thicker cloud and light rain.
Overnight most places should be frost free. Cloudy skies, strong winds and outbreaks of rain.
WEATHER: Rest of the weekend
INTO TONIGHT
Clear skies today bring an early frost this evening. Lows down to -2C. Replaced by an area of rain from the northwest after midnight.
This could bring a temporary covering of snow for the hills as it meets the cold air. As the rain hits subzero surfaces ice could be a problem for the middle part of the night. By dawn milder and cloudier weather wins with a strong westerly breeze.
SUNDAY
Less cold but more cloud. Outbreaks of rain during the morning should ease, leaving a mostly cloudy, damp day with occasional sunny spells. Temperatures back up to 8/9C and remaining breezy.
OUTLOOK
Colder, showery and windy.
The winds veer to the north by midweek, increasing the risk of any showers turning wintry. A return to overnight frosts and the risk of ice. Winds strong to gale force at times and cold - big wind chill factor.
Weather: Tonight
Any lingering rain clearing quickly east.
Then mainly dry tonight with some clear intervals though a few showers may blow through from west later.
Strong to gale southwesterly winds easing overnight.
Minimum temperature 4 °C.
