Man arrested and charged with death of woman from the Scottish Borders

An 84-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a woman in the Scottish Borders.

Margaret Maude Hanson, also 84, from Galashiels, was pronounced dead at a property on Wood Street after Police Scotland received reports of her death just after 3:05am on 9 December 2024.

In a statement, the 84-year-old's family said: "We are devastated at the loss of our mum and gran."Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. We would ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

The 84-year-old man arrested and charged in connection to Ms Hanson is due to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court on 10 December 2024.

Debbie Duncan, Police Scotland Detective Inspector, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Margaret who are being supported by specialist officers."We would again ask that their privacy is respected at this time."
