Body found in police search for missing woman reported 'stuck in mud' near Annan

A body has been found in a police search to locate a missing woman believed to have got stuck in mud in Dumfries and Galloway.

Shona Campbell is believed to have gone walking in the Solway Estuary, near Moss-Side Caravan Park, Cummertrees, Annan just after 5pm on 9 December 2024.

The 74-year-old, from the Isle of Man, reportedly experienced difficulty with the surface covered in mud.

At around 5:40pm on Tuesday, 10 December, Police Scotland said the body of a woman was located in the Solway Estuary, Cummertrees, Annan.

Ms Campbell's body has been formally identified by Police Scotland. Officers add that the death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
