A man has had a lucky escape after falling 200 metres down a Lake District mountain.

Rescue teams were called to the summit of Helvellyn at around 3:30pm on 7 March.

They say it seemed the man had slipped while ascending a snow slope.

Due to concerns over a potential spinal injury he was airlifted to hospital, however he was able to walk.
