Search continues for man who got into difficulty at Crummock Water in the Lake District

Searches are continuing at Crummock Water for a man in his 30s from London who went missing when swimming in the lake.

Rescue teams were called to the area at 1pm on Friday with reports a swimmer had not returned.

Search and rescue helicopters and boats spent hours searching for the man until 11pm last night.

On Saturday morning, the North West Police divers joined Cumbria Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, Mountain Rescue and the Coastguard in the efforts to find the man.

Officers are asking people to avoid the area and the road down the side of the lake will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Closures are at Lorton Junction, B5289/B5292 and the B5289/ Newlands Pass.

Emergency services are resuming searches this morning (July 17) for a male in Crummock Water.

Searches paused yesterday evening at around 11pm.

Partners from Cumbria Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, Mountain Rescue, the Coastguard and North West Police Underwater search team are currently assisting officers

Officers are again urging people to avoid the area while emergency services conduct their searches.

Road closures continue to be in place while searches are ongoing, closures are at Lorton Junction, B5289/B5292 and the B5289/ Newlands Pass.

We are asking for those affected by the disruption to be patient as searches are expected to be ongoing for the foreseeable.
