Man, 48, dies after being recovered from the River Nith in Dumfries

Police in Dumfries are appealing for witnesses after the death of a man recovered from the River Nith on Friday evening.

Emergency services pulled James Carruthers from the river near College Street shortly after seven o'clock on Friday (31st July) evening.

The 48-year-old was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.

His death isn't being treated as suspicious however police are appealing for witnesses to establish exactly what happened.

Detective Sergeant Nadine Scott, of Dumfries CID, said: "We're appealing for help to trace his last movements just before he entered the water and anyone who witnessed this incident should contact us on 101."
