Alan Shearer thanks young football fan for fundraising efforts

A young football fan from Carlisle has received a video message from one of his sporting heroes.

12-year-old Jamie Stuart wrote a football magazine as part of a home-school project, but it soon became a novelty way to raise money for charity.

As an avid Newcastle United supporter he decided to write the 'NUFC Weekly', a 30 page magazine with player fact-files, fan questionnaires and puzzles.

Jamie sent his magazine to family and friends in return for a donation to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The charity supports patients in Cumbria and the North East who are going through cancer treatment. Sir Bobby Robson launched the Foundation as an NHS charity in 2008. It helps find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.

Jamie sent a copy of the magazine to the foundation to tell them what he had been up to during lockdown. Charity Patron, Alan Shearer, sent a heartfelt thank you message to Jamie to show his gratitude for his fundraising efforts.

In the video the football legend says:

"I just wanted to say how impressed I was with your research on the Sir Bobby Robson foundation, and for all the money you have raised for it as well. I know your dad is a big fan of Newcastle as you are so, I just want to say, thank you very much and well done!."

So far Jamie has raised £185 for the cause.
